Whether you're dealing with your period or urine leaks, we all want the same thing from the products we use for protection — comfortable and reliable support.
On the surface, washable period pants and incontinence underwear can look pretty similar. Both products aim to discreetly help you live confidently. Because of these similarities, you might be wondering, 'Do period pants work for incontinence?' But when you look at both products in closer detail, you will see that they perform very specific tasks that require specialist design.
Let's learn more about why using the right product can give you the best support, whether you're dealing with bladder leaks or periods.
Can you use period pants for incontinence?
We always recommend that you use washable incontinence underwear instead of period pants for dealing with incontinence.
Since period pants are designed to absorb menstrual blood, we do not suggest that you use them for incontinence. Urine has a different consistency and pH level than blood. So, using period pants for urine may result in leaks and skin irritation due to their inability to properly absorb and hold urine.
Because most period pants aren't designed to handle urine, they can't offer you the same security as the built-in absorption of TENA washable incontinence pants. They draw in urine and lock in leaks to keep you secure while also caring for your skin.
Can you use incontinence underwear for periods?
Incontinence underwear absorbs and locks in urine, which has a different consistency and amount of fluid compared to menstrual blood. Because of this, we don't recommend using TENA washable incontinence underwear while you're on your period.
Menstrual flows can be denser than urine (especially if they include clots) and may leak through the absorbent layers of incontinence underwear, leading to potential staining. It's always better to use products specifically designed for managing your period to ensure proper absorption, leak protection, and overall comfort.
What to use if you experience you period and incontinence at the same time?
When you’re only experiencing incontinence or your period separately, it’s best to use a product designed for each situation. But what if you start to experience light urine leaks at the same time as your period?
If you’re experiencing a combination of menstrual blood, sweat and urine, our partner Bodyform offers washable All Fluid Protection Underwear.
